NeverNote is a full-featured Evernote app for Linux, Mac, and Windows

Windows and Mac users have a first-party Evernote app, but Linux users have been limited to running Evernote in WINE or using the Web interface. NeverNote, however, offers a full-featured desktop app which runs natively on 32- and 64-bit Linux distros.

In addition to covering the basics, NeverNote offers a number of features you won't find in Evernote's desktop app. Multiple databases are supported (and each can have a different username and password), databases can be encrypted, images within notes can be rotated, an existing note can be copied to a new note, note titles can be edited, inline PDF display is offered, and you can set NeverNote to auto-sync when you close the app. As Andrew at WebUpd8 notes, there are a few missing features -- like recording webcam notes, drawing ink notes, sharing, and built-in screen clipping. NeverNote also currently sends emails in plain text.

Need some help getting started with NeverNote? Its developer has shared -- what else? -- an Evernote notebook full of handy information. And while the primary goal goal of NeverNote is to provide Linux users with a quality, native Evernote app, Windows and Mac builds are available for download as well.

Dailymotion app for Windows Phone 7 brings on-the-go video viewing

Dailymotion -- one of the great productivity leeches of the Internet -- has arrived on Windows Phone 7. The app provides easy access to Dailymotion's massive stash of videos, and it's more than a mere wrapper around a mobile site (unlike Microsoft's YouTube app).

Featured videos are offered when the app first opens, and you can also browse Dailymotion's many channels. There's a built-in search function, though it's not triggered by your phone's search button. You'll have to flip through the app's screens until you reach its menu, which lets you search, view your video uploads, access your favorites and subscriptions, and sign in to your Dailymotion account.

While viewing in portrait mode, buttons are provided to like and share videos. Switch to landscape mode, and your video goes full-screen -- though always rotating clockwise, which left me looking at an upside-down feed until I did a quick 180. Tapping the screen brings a timeline slider and pause button into view.

Dailymotion works nicely, though there was an odd placeholder element which appeared when I first launched the app. Other than that minor glitch (and the rotation thing), the app worked well and video playback was quite smooth.

Greenpois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 released

The Chronic Dev Team has unleashed the the untethered greenpois0n jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, which means you don't have to re-root your phone after every reboot.

Some provisos, though: the jailbreak is only available for Mac users right now, and the greenpois0n website seems to be down, so you can't actually download the jailbreak. Also, according to the excited Engadget commenters, it sounds like the installation of the jailbreak is a little bit finicky.

As always, back up your phone beforehand, and don't proceed unless you really know what you're doing.

InPrivate Browsing made easy with Internet Explorer 9 pinned sites

InPrivate Browsing is Internet Explorer's answer to Chrome's Incognito and Firefox's Private Browsing. In essence, it gives you a very quick way to surf the Internet without leaving traces of activity on your computer.

The problem with Firefox and Chrome, though, is that there's no one-click way to open a private browsing window. You have to fumble with some menus or hit a keyboard shortcut, then type in a full website address (or you could wade through our guide on how to force your browser to start in private mode). With Internet Explorer 9, however, you can pin an InPrivate Browsing tab to your taskbar! Simply open an InPrivate Browsing session by hitting Ctrl+Shift+P, navigate to the site that you want quick access to, then drag the tab to your taskbar. Every time you click the icon it will automatically open the site InPrivate Browsing mode; easy!

Of course, this doesn't mitigate the fact that you have a highly-visible icon on your screen that links to something you're probably trying to keep away from prying eyes. Still, for shared computers where you don't want to intermingle Google search histories or similar, it's an excellent solution.

Update: as commenter Dan Larson says, if you right click any pinned site you have the option to "Start InPrivate Browsing." All of the major browsers have this feature in Windows 7 (and Vista?), incidentally.

For more IE9 tips, see our tips index, or read our complete IE9 guide.

A Behind the Scenes Look of Pixar [Video]

The NY Times got a rare glimpse at Pixar's animation process and even better, a tour of Pixar's offices. It's filled with delicious nuggets from the most consistent (and probably best) movie studio of our time. Did you know Steve Jobs designed a building there? Or that they have a secret speakeasy room? Or enough milk and cereal for the apocalypse? Watch the video above if you ever liked any Pixar movie. [Devour via Kottke] More »
